As a Marketing Coach and Consultant for new coaches and service providers, setting up an email list is one of the first things I help my clients achieve. And the platform I always recommend they use? Flodesk.

That means, if you have 500 people on your email list, at least 100 of them will open it! (And, it could be up to 250 people, depending on how engaged your audience is).

So let’s compare those 2 statistics again:

500 social media followers = between 10 - 25 people seeing your post

500 email subscribers = between 100 - 250 people reading your email

Considering it’s the same amount of effort to create the content for each platform, it makes TOTAL SENSE to go all-in on building your email list!

Not only that, but it’s been studied that emails are the most effective digital marketing platform, with your audience being way more likely to make a purchase from an email than from a social media post.

Think about it - when we check our emails, we mean business. We are checking for important updates and things that need to be taken of, whereas when we’re on social media, we are there to chill out and be entertained. People are more likely to click a link in an email to go to a checkout to purchase, compared to when they are on social and want to scroll, scroll, scroll.

And finally - the most important reason to start your email list? No one can take it away from you. Those subscribers are yours (until they individually unsubscribe), making your email list your most valuable asset in your business.

Compare this to social media accounts, which can be shut down at ANY time, for literally no reason or explanation. I have heard too many horror stories of people building their entire business on social media, and getting shut down out of the blue for no reason, and having no way to contact their followers ever again. After spending years and years building their following and creating valuable content for their audience, it is all literally GONE forever. Beyond depressing.

That’s why I believe it’s the SMART, SAFE and BEST LONG TERM MOVE to build your email list.
